He was born on 1923 in a small town of Almora in U.P. He met his Guru Swami ShivanandaSaraswati in 1934 in Rishikesh and adopted Sannyasa way of life. In 1955 he left his guru’s ashram to live as a wandering mendicant and later founded the International Yoga Fellowship in 1963 and the Bihar School of Yoga in 1964.
He founded Sivananda math in 1987, a charitable institution for rural development, and the Yoga Research foundation. In 1988 he renounced his mission, adopting KshetraSannyasa and now lives as a ParamhansaSannayasin.
The Great Yoga Guru Paramhamsa Swami Satyananda, a life which inspired millions on the path of yoga, took mahasamadhi at midnight on the 5th of december 2009. He called his disciple, Swami Satsangi and told her that it was time for him to enter into mahasamadhi. He then sat down in Padmasana and left the body.

He joined the Bihar School of Yoga in the age of 4 and was initiated into DashnamiSannyasa at the age of 10. From 1971 he traveled overseas and toured many countries for the next 11 years. In 1983 he was recalled to India and appointed President of Bihar School of Yoga.
During the following 11 years he guided the development of Ganga Darshan, Shivananda Math and the Yoga Research Foundation. In 1990 he was initiated as a Paramahamsa and in 1993 anointed Preceptor in succession to Swami Satyananda. Bihar Yoga Bharati was founded under his direction in 1994. He has authored over 20 books and guides, national and international yoga programs.
Yogacharya started his career as a Engineer but after working there for 12 years eventually he started his own business in Nasik in 1978, expanding to Pune and Aurangabad in next few years. While he was looking after his business, he started Yoga VidyaGurukul in 1978, utilizing the morning and evening hours for the noble cause of Yoga Education.
As his life mission he adopt yoga in 1995. Today Yoga VidyaGurukul is one of the big yoga institutes in India. He has authored more than 18 books and over 50 audio cds, 2 software on Yoga Education, applications of Yoga, Yoga as a Therapy, Yoga for Kids, Women etc. He writes for Yoga Magazine called “Yoga Sugandha” for the last 25 years.

YogacharyaIyengar’s style of teaching Yoga is unique and termed as ‘Iyengar Yoga’. B. K. S. Iyengar has command over Yogasanas, in fact, has the authority over asanas.
